As per the Constitution of the Maldives, Rule 116 (a), under the work assigned to the government offices, The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has to make and value the national development plan and assess whether the development goals and plans set by all government fields are going in accordance with the national development plan and has to direct them towards the plan which is being developed by the ministry of national planning and infrastructure.

Furthermore, all the nationwide infrastructural projects like major public infrastructure projects, road development projects, harbor projects, airport projects, and coastal protection projects are being carried out by the Ministry of National Planning and infrastructure.

All the above-mentioned works are categorized and maintained under three major departments which are Infrastructure department, Planning department which makes short-term and long-term national development plans, construction industry development department which monitor and regulates all the construction projects.
